Jake Paul Earns Unanimous Decision Against Former Champion Chavez Jr.
Jake Paul secured a victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. by unanimous decision in a 10-round cruiserweight bout on Saturday at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. The official judges' scorecards read 99-91, 97-93, and 98-92, all in favor of Paul.
This win extends Paul's winning streak to six consecutive fights following his split decision loss to Tommy Fury in February 2023. With a professional record of 12-1 (7 KOs), Paul's latest performance comes after he defeated former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson by unanimous decision last November.
Chavez, a former WBC middleweight world champion, sees his record move to 54-7-1. He won his world title with a majority decision in June 2011 and made three successful defenses. This was his third straight fight in the cruiserweight division.
Significant professional stakes were on the line for Paul in this fight. A win against Chavez could secure him a position in the WBC rankings at 200 pounds, bringing him a step closer to his goal of challenging for a world title.
WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman commented on the possibility before the event. "The WBC ratings committee has been following Jake Paul's career," Sulaiman told ESPN. "If he defeats Chavez, and depending on how the fight plays out, the committee will make the decision. It's very likely [Paul will be ranked] if he wins convincingly."
