Jasprit Bumrah and Sanjana Ganesan humorously recounted their initial encounter during the 2019 World Cup, where Sanjana mistakenly believed Bumrah was avoiding her due to a presumed girlfriend or wife. Bumrah clarified that his shy nature led to the initial awkwardness. Eventually, they connected, married in 2021, and welcomed their son in 2023.

NEW DELHI: Indian cricket sensation Jasprit Bumrah and sports presenter Sanjana Ganesan recently shared the amusing anecdote of their initial meeting during the 2019 ODI World Cup in England. Sanjana confessed that she initially thought the fast bowler was either married or heavily monitored by a girlfriend.

The couple, who are now happily married with a son, recounted the story on the show Who’s The Boss?, hosted by Harbhajan Singh and Geeta Basra.

Jasprit Bumrah and Sanjana Ganesan share a lighthearted moment with Harbhajan Singh and Geeta Basra.

Sanjana reminisced, "This was in 2019 during the World Cup. I was around the Indian team during practices. The other boys like DK [Dinesh Karthik] used to wave and say hi. Jasprit was in the group but made this face, like ‘I’m not going to say hi or even make eye contact.’"

Assuming that he was purposefully ignoring her, Sanjana jokingly thought: "Mujhe laga maybe girlfriend hogi, wife hogi [I thought maybe he had a girlfriend or wife watching him]. I was like either I’ve done something wrong, or that’s his personality!"

However, once they started interacting, the ice broke quickly. "Once we spoke, we understood each other. Turns out, he’s not like that at all," Sanjana added.

Bumrah, laughing off the incident, responded, "This story is very one-sided! She thought I was married? My nature is shy. I don’t randomly go around saying ‘hi’ to people. It takes time for me to open up."

"Her logic was that I didn’t say hi, so I must be married and being watched - what kind of logic is that?" he joked.

The couple got married in March 2021 and welcomed their son, Angad, in September 2023. From awkward silences to sharing laughs on national television, their journey is both heartwarming and humorous.
